Cookie Policy

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. This policy explains the cookies buckingfugs.com (the “Service”) uses and why. The theme throughout is restraint: we set the fewest cookies we can, and every one of them is strictly necessary for a feature you asked for. The categories we don't use

Most cookie banners exist because sites load advertising and analytics trackers. We don't. There are no advertising or marketing cookies, no third-party analytics cookies, and no cross-site tracking or fingerprinting on the Service. Our own analytics is cookieless — it records only the page path and an external referrer, never an identity.

The cookies we do use

Strictly necessary — authentication

If you create an account and sign in, our authentication provider (Supabase) sets a session cookie in your browser. It's what keeps you logged in as you move between pages, and it's required for signed-in features such as your account and monitoring dashboard. It contains a session token, not your password. If you never sign in, this cookie is never set. Clearing it (or signing out) ends your session.

Strictly necessary — payments & fraud prevention

When you start a payment — for example subscribing to a paid monitoring plan — it runs through Stripe. Stripe sets its own cookies inside its payment components to process the payment and to prevent fraud. These are governed by Stripe's policy, and they're only involved if you start a payment.

Functional — your cookie choice

When you acknowledge the cookie notice at the bottom of the screen, we remember that in your browser's local storage (not a cookie, and never sent to a server) so we don't show the notice on every visit. Clearing your browser storage brings the notice back.

Do you need to consent?

Because every cookie above is strictly necessary for a feature you actively use — signing in, or paying — none of them require prior opt-in consent under the ePrivacy Directive or GDPR. There is nothing non-essential to switch off, so we show a brief notice rather than a consent manager with toggles. If we ever add a non-essential cookie, we will change this page and ask for your consent first.

Managing cookies

You can delete or block cookies at any time in your browser settings, and every major browser lets you do this. Blocking the authentication cookie will sign you out and prevent signed-in features from working; blocking Stripe's cookies may prevent payments from completing. The rest of the Service — including scanning a domain — works fine without any cookies at all.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service evolves. When we do, we'll revise the “Last updated” date above, and we'll ask for consent before introducing any cookie that isn't strictly necessary.
