Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of buckingfugs (the “Service”) at buckingfugs.com. By using the Service you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

What the Service is

buckingfugs runs passive, non-intrusive security checks against a domain you provide — reading public DNS records and public HTTP(S) responses — and returns a plain-English report of low-level hygiene issues along with suggested fixes. It is an informational tool. It is not a penetration test, a security audit, or a guarantee that your site is secure.

With an optional account you can also put domains you've verified under continuous monitoring — scheduled re-scans that email you when something regresses. Some monitoring plans are paid; those are covered under “Payments & subscriptions” below.

Acceptable use

• Only scan domains you own or are explicitly authorized to test. Do not use the Service to probe, recon, or gather information about systems you don't control.
• Don't use the Service to break any law or anyone else's rights.
• Don't abuse, overload, scrape, or attempt to disrupt the Service or its infrastructure, or circumvent its rate limits.
• Don't use scan results to harass, extort, or shake down anyone — that's the exact behavior we exist to stop.

No warranty

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Passive checks can produce false positives and false negatives; a clean report does not mean your site is safe, and a finding does not necessarily mean it is exploitable. You are responsible for verifying and acting on any results. Fixing every issue we surface will not make you “un-hackable.”

Payments & subscriptions

Every finding and every fix is free. Optional paid monitoring plans are billed through Stripe as a recurring subscription and are subject to Stripe's terms. A subscription renews automatically each billing period until you cancel it, which you can do at any time from the billing portal in your account; cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current period. For a billing question or a charge you believe was made in error, email us and we'll sort it out.

Intellectual property

The Service, including its name, branding, copy, and the tardigrade, is ours and is protected by applicable IP laws. The report we generate about your own domain is yours to use as you see fit.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, buckingfugs and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service or from reliance on its results. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the prior twelve months (which, for a free tool, is typically zero) or USD $50.

Changes

We may update the Service and these Terms over time. When we change the Terms we'll update the “Last updated” date above; continued use after a change means you accept the revised Terms.
